You are starting a business and the first thing that you think you need is a Website.
But what is a website if not a page onto which you communicate with others who you are and what you do.
I failed
I recently logged onto /my/ website I thought was simple enough (just a landing page) for me to relax and forget about it for a minute.
I thought….I will look at it when I am ready to talk about my business.
And as this dreaded moment approached, I realised this website creating and running part of a business is not something I can cope with. Everything seemed to scream at me: this is missing, and this is missing, and what about your cookies!
I panicked. I was about to pay for whatever and whichever plugs in and their Pro features just to make sure my website does not harm me or anyone interacting with it.
Do no harm in a world set up with hacks, leaks, data breaches is hard. As if, the system waits patiently for your vulnerability, for your ignorance and your dream of having a business. I realised:
- This is not my expertise
- I cannot be asking for a saviour.
And then I reframed
And so, I closed the website after two stressful days. and my hats go off to anyone who is doing it alone, learned it alone and teaches others. You are geniuses, I worship you.
So I asked myself key question:
- Can I have a business without a website?
Yes if by website we mean:
- communicating values
- what we do
- who we do it for, and
- how we do it.
This can happen by a simple conversation.
I can even go old school and have a business card. Wild!
And of course, I can describe my business on a blog and via newsletter.
Will it work?
I don’t know, but I will surely write about it!
Yours,
