IDEATE: A business approach that aligns the care for craft with motherhood
MAIMA MAKES is a talented hobby knitter and crocheter based in Poland who despite a steady following, loyal customer base, deep knowledge and long "back catalogue" of started patterns, she felt "stuck" and unable to find a unique voice in busy online marketplace.
The pressure came from a gap between her talent and the internal friction of turning ideas into a business that felt manageable for a mother of two.
She needed a path that reflected her professional rigour—from her mastery of tools, pattern-making, measurements, and suppliers to her commitment to organic materials and garment after-care. It was essential that her business model produced goods that fit the client and make them feel good about themselves, last a lifetime rather than a season, all while maintaining operations that keep her in check with commitment to family and craft.
We moved away from abstract “Instagrammable business success” goals and focused on the operational reality of starting a business and vision of bespoke accessible crafted goods that last. Through two IDEATE sessions, we built:
The Foundation: Business built on her values of care for materials, her craft, and community.
A Unique Offering: Centred on being a mentor for knitters who feel “stuck,” providing advice that feel like “someone is sitting right next to them.”
A “Done” Workflow: Establishing a Project-to-Pattern system to clear the back catalogue and manage production around family life.
The transition from “feeling stuck” to “feeling solid” happened almost immediately and the results are tangible:
Speed: A stalled pattern was finished, tested, and live on the website within two weeks.
Visibility: Social media views jumped from zero to 1,000, with a fresh wave of engaged followers after six months silence.
Success: The client secured her first sale and now stands behind a brand that is both credible to the outside world and in line with her daily life
“Finding motivation to keep going and my voice in a crowded market felt impossible until we started working on my unique offering. Karolina helped me realize that my value was in being that supportive voice ‘sitting next to the knitter‘ and weaving in all my knowledge and care for the craft itself into the business.
